Stolt Tankers and GoodFuels launch biofuel trial on Atlantic crossing

Stolt Tankers and GoodFuels launch sustainable biofuel trial on Atlantic crossing - GoodFuels

Acting on its long-term sustainability strategy, Stolt Tankers is partnering with GoodFuels to trial a sustainable marine biofuel produced from 100% waste-based feedstocks.

In a pivotal move towards a greener future, Stolt Tankers has initiated a groundbreaking trial of sustainable biofuel during a transatlantic voyage. This effort underscores Stolt Tankers’ strong commitment to reducing its environmental footprint by exploring innovative fuel alternatives that are both sustainable and efficient.

The Stolt Inspiration, a deep-sea chemical tanker, has been powered by a sustainable biofuel blend provided by GoodFuels. This advanced biofuel, derived from certified sustainable feedstocks, offers a cleaner energy solution that can be seamlessly integrated into existing maritime operations. By leveraging this renewable fuel, Stolt Tankers is setting a new standard for reducing greenhouse gas emissions without compromising on performance or reliability.

“I am excited to see the results of the trial,” said Lucas Vos, President of Stolt Tankers. “This is just one of the areas that we are exploring as the industry moves towards a carbon-neutral future."

“We are committed to working with other leaders to explore innovative technologies – including biofuels, hydrogen, wind, ammonia and methanol – to reduce our environmental footprint while continuing to provide customers with the high-quality service they expect from us.”

Isabel Welten, Chief Commercial Officer at GoodFuels, added: “We believe passionately in the tanker segment’s sustainability vision, and we’re proving that advanced biofuels have an immediate impact in reducing emissions. By supplying a credible low-carbon alternative to Stolt Tankers, together we’re marking another vital step towards advancing the uptake of marine biofuels while also supporting the wider maritime industry in meeting its decarbonisation goals.”

This trial is the latest outcome of a strong collaboration between Stolt Tankers and GoodFuels, reflecting their shared vision of driving the maritime industry towards a more sustainable future. By embracing renewable energy sources like biofuels, Stolt Tankers continues to pave the way for environmentally responsible shipping, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

Stolt Tankers remains dedicated to exploring practical, sustainable solutions to help the maritime industry transition to a low-carbon future. This trial is not just a step forward—it’s a testament to the company’s leadership in sustainable innovation and a clear indication of the future direction of marine fuel technology.
